Lors de notre séjour en Californie, nous avons profité de notre passage à San Francisco pour découvrir et vous présenter un autre magnifique Bed & Breakfast; The Parsonage.
Les sympathiques propriétaires, Joan Hull and John Phillips, sont des plus accueillants et nous avons tout de suite été charmés, autant par nos hôtes chaleureux que par la belle maison de trois étages.
During our stay in California, we were pleased to visit another beautiful San Francisco Bed & Breakfast; The Parsonage.
The friendly owners, Joan Hull and John Phillips, are very welcoming and we were immediately charmed by our friendly hosts and their beautiful three-story house.
Construite en 1883 par un riche homme d’affaires, M. McMorry, elle resta dans la famille pendant 100 ans, protégée et préservée avec zèle par deux soeurs, Grace et Alice Lagan (les petites-filles de M. McMorry) qui y habitèrent toute leur vie, jusqu’à ce que Joan et son mari en prennent possession en 1983. Ils y ont élevé leurs enfants et l’ont convertie en B&B il y a 15 ans, à leur retraite.
En entrant, j’ai tout de suite été impressionnée par les hauts plafonds (14 pieds de haut) et les luminaires imposants fait d’argent et de cristal.
Built in 1883 by a wealthy businessman, Mr. McMorry, it remained in the family for 100 years, zealously protected and preserved by two sisters, Grace and Alice Lagan (granddaughters of Mr. McMorry) that lived there throughout their lives, until Joan and her husband bought it in 1983. They converted it to a B & B fifteen years ago, after their retirement.
Upon entering, I was immediately impressed by the high ceilings (14 feet high) and the imposing chandeliers made of silver and crystal.
Une bonne partie du papier peint, les moulures et les boiseries sont originales et on se sent littéralement transporté à une autre époque.
Dans la majorité des chambres, on retrouve un foyer de marbre et de beaux meubles de bois, comme les bureaux secrétaires et de grandes penderies dignes d’un conte de Narnia!
Much of the wallpaper and woodwork are original and one feels literally transported to another time.
In most of the rooms, there is a marble fireplace and beautiful wood furniture, such as office secretaries and large wardrobes worthy of a tale of Narnia!
Étant une passionnée d’antiquités et de vintage, Joan a tout remeublé à son goût avec des trésors du passé accumulés au fil des années. Le résultat est vraiment réussi, surtout dans la salle à diner, ma pièce favorite de la maison.
Being a passionate of antique and vintage things, Joan has all refurbished the rooms with great taste and with treasures from the past accumulated over the years. The result is very successful, especially in the dining room, my favorite part of the house.
Dans cette pièce, on a troqué le papier peint par une grande murale peinte sur les panneaux muraux et le plafond représentant un doux décor méditerranéen. La belle table ronde en bois foncé, qui peut asseoir dix personnes, favorise les rencontres et les discussions lors du petit-déjeuner.
Comme nous étions un mardi, il n’y avait ce matin-là qu’Ethan et moi et nous en avons profité pour discuter avec Joan et lui poser mille et une questions sur l’histoire de la maison et sur son parcours passionnant!
In the dinning room, the wallpaper as been swapped with a large mural painted on the wall panels and ceiling representing a Mediterranean décor. The beautiful dark wood round table, which can seat up to ten people, encourage discussions at breakfast.
Since we were Tuesday morning, there was only Ethan and I that morning and we took the opportunity to ask Joan a thousand questions about the history of the house!
Le petit-déjeuner était bien sympathique, avec des petits fruits, du yogourt et granola, des oeufs, du bacon et un pain délicieux choisi avec soin chez Tartine Bakery – un endroit que je ne manquerai pas de visiter lors de mon prochain passage à San Francisco!
Nous avons tellement apprécié notre visite que nous nous sommes promis de passer saluer Joan lors de notre prochain passage à San Francisco!
Breakfast was very nice; small fruits, yogurt and granola, eggs, bacon and a delicious bread carefully chosen to Tartine Bakery – a place I hope to have a chance to visit during my next stay in San Francisco!
We enjoyed our visit so much that we really hope to be able to visit Joan and her husband next time we are in San Francisco!
