YOU CAN EAT THE MOST DELICIOUS BEEF TONGUE AT THIS TAIPEI RESTAURANT

After 3 weeks exploring the neighbourhood around the MRT Station Zhongxiao Dunhua, where we had our AirBnB, there was still one restaurant we yet wanted to try, but we haven’t got to it yet. So on our last night before leaving Taipei, we decided to go. This Japanese restaurant’s name is Okiagari Koboshi, and here, the specialty is beef tongue (don’t look for something else on the menu!).

You can choose a set meal (it’s really worth it’s price) and the price in Canadian dollars will range from around 45$ to 60$ for the set menu. I wasn’t sure Ethan would love the tongue (I knew I’d like it!), but it turned out to be a great succes!

The dish are carefully prepared with very fresh ingredients, and this is a fine dining experience.

There are different cuts of beef tongue to choose from (and the price will vary accordingly). Basically, the 3 different sections are the base, the middle and the tip of the tongue.

Here is a description of the different cuts I found on Internet, as you’ll find them in the menu. Unfortunately, the menu only comes in Chinese, but the very friendly owner will help you figure it out!

Okiagari Koboshi: 1.5 cm thick, cut in Japanese style (mid-part of the tongue)
Arnold: 1.5 cm thick, cut in Japanese style (base of the tongue)
Diced beef tongue: 4 cm thick (mid-part of the tongue)
Beef tongue flower: 3 cm thick, cut like a diced mango (base of the tongue)
Australian 9+ wagyu beef tongue: grilled premium wagyu beef (base of the tongue)
Stallone: exquisite beef tongue dish using the mid-part and the base of the tongue

The set menu arrives all at once (although we had munchings served to us before, like pickled radish, edamame and a little appetizer of tongue). In the set menu, you have a soup, rice, a salad, green vegetables – all finely prepared, delicate and succulent!

To accompany your menu, you’ll have a choice of beer, sake, cocktail menu or non-alcoholic beverages. We had cold sake with it and it was wonderful!

As part of the set menu, you get a desert. You can choose from different flavours of Häagen-Dazs ice cream with a fresh orange already prepared for you to it!

In addition to great food, the service is impeccable. The owner goes out of his way to make sure that you are having a good time and that you like the food. And believe me, you will!

I am really glad we tried it before leaving and I totally recommend it! Not sure if you like tongue? If you like beef, you like steak – go for it, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised!
