S Hotel & HYG Restaurant – a Philippe Starck designed hotel in Taipei, Taiwan

S Hotel & HYG Restaurant – a Philippe Starck designed hotel in Taipei, Taiwan

The first time I visited the S Hotel in Taipei, I was participating in a networking event. I loved the look of the hotel and so I looked into it and learned that the design (including in fact all the objects inside) was created by the famous Philippe Starck. I was intrigued to see more. I was therefore very happy to be invited for a one night stay at this brand new hotel (it opened in June 2017) so that I could get to know it better.     The beautiful and warm lobby has been designed to feel like a living room and it’s working out very well! Stylishly arranged bookshelves, crystal chandeliers, colorful carpets and photo frames; even a fireplace!     I really loved the unique eclectic style; modern pieces mixed up with traditional ones and the mix of materials (black leather, tan leather, wood, red carpets, crystals, etc.).     The bedroom’s dominant color is white, with a touch of yellow stripes. I was there...

Chronique d’une québécoise à Taiwan : 7 choses à faire à Taipei

Chronique d’une québécoise à Taiwan : 7 choses à faire à Taipei

Bonjour tout le monde! On commence notre 8e semaine à Taipei, Taiwan; déjà presque 2 mois ici.

Yun Jin Chinese Restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Taipei, Taiwan

Yun Jin Chinese Restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Taipei, Taiwan

The Grand Hyatt Taipei, with its 853 rooms, is the largest hotel in the city. It’s also the place for great restaurants, such as the elegant Yun Jin, which I discovered last night during a media visit.     Located in what has been called the Manhattan of Taiwan, the Xinyi District, this is a popular place for both locals and tourists as well. The decor is peaceful, harmonious and soft, with some gold and purple accent colours.     My friend Chelsea and I went there on a Wednesday night in order to try the cuisine. The place is obviously popular. Even though it was quite busy, it’s a perfect place for a soft and calm ambiance. The place is inviting and you feel like you can take your time.     We started the night by trying a specialty of the Yun Jin; the buckwheat tea. Caffeine free, all natural and organic, it’s made from the seed of a fruit closely related to rhubarb (yep, no actual wheat is involved!). This...

EAST END BAR at HOTEL PROVERBS Taipei, Taiwan

EAST END BAR at HOTEL PROVERBS Taipei, Taiwan

Having not had yet a single decent drink for three weeks since I have been in Taipei, Taiwan, I was thrilled to be invited to try some cocktails and food at EAST END BAR, located in the beautiful HOTEL PROVERBS Taipei. And they are not just any cocktails – they have been created by world class cocktail master Hidetsugu Ueno’s, who has won countless international mixology competitions.     The hotel itself is located in Eastern Taipei, at Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT station, a great area for (fashion) shopping, among other things. From the station, it’s a few minutes easy walk (except that day, which was about 50 degree Celcius with the humidex, making it the hottest day ever recorded in September in Taipei. Ever.). Before sitting down and getting to our serious business (cocktails, that is), we were given a tour of the hotel. I was happy to discover renowned designer Ray Chen’s universe; a mix of modern and classic elements, old and new, with lot’s of raw materials and...

Brunch in Taipei at the 333 RESTAURANT & BAR – HOTEL QUOTE Taipei, in Taiwan

Brunch in Taipei at the 333 RESTAURANT & BAR – HOTEL QUOTE Taipei, in Taiwan

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month that I am in Taipei, Taiwan. Through out the past weeks, I discovered all kind of new breakfast food, some that I really like and others… not so much! I was really happy to be invited for brunch at 333 RESTAURANT & BAR, located in the first floor of the very urban HOTEL QUOTE Taipei, especially after looking at their online menu : they had me right at Egg Benedict!     Yes, I do like to discover local food, but sometimes, I need my fix of my own good old, classic brunch. And when the decor combines vintage elements to a modern and urban look, it makes it all even more appealing to me. One thing that is unique to 333 RESTAURANT & BAR is that with every brunch, a salad bar, french fries (why not?!), coffee and tea are included. Simply get up and serve yourself at the bar. The black tea is strong, perfect for waking you up in the...
